We intend to use our Green Products Spotlight to feature innovative products made from recycled or secondary materials or which utilize new energy-efficient technologies or less-toxic ingredients. AdvanTech®

AdvanTech® flooring is an environmentally friendly building solution. It optimizes the use of wood because it is made from young, sustainable, small trees, which are more quickly replaced than older-growth trees like those required for making plywood. What’s more, all parts of the log are used in the production of AdvanTech flooring and leftover chips, bark and sawdust are used to help fuel our manufacturing facilities so that nothing goes to waste. In addition, AdvanTech flooring contains no added urea formaldehyde and is categorized as low VOC emitting material. In fact, our panels have such low emissions that they are exempt from formaldehyde emissions standards and are lower than HUD, CARB and European standards.

AdvanTech® flooring is SFI certified and has achieved NAHB Research Center National Green Building Certification. It is often eligible for points in green certification programs including National Green Building Standard, NAHB Model Green Home Building Guidelines, LEED For Homes and ENERGY STAR®,.

Points can be awarded in the following areas:

• Use of renewable materials
• Use of certified wood and engineered wood products

This line of moulding products contains no urea-formaldehyde and meets CARB Phase II requirements. SPERO moulding is 100% recycled wood fiber harvested from responsibly managed forests.

In addition, SPERO products are made from 100% recycled wood fiber (SCS certified) that was originally harvested from responsibly managed forests (SFI certified).

Trex: All the ingredients used are being re-used.

The same process we use to make our products is also environmentally responsible. Trex® is made from about 50 percent recycled and reclaimed plastic, and 50 percent reclaimed wood. These materials would otherwise go unused in landfills. Using sustainable materials and green manufacturing processes is a policy that touches everything we do.

Consolidated Coatings has developed a breakthrough stain by combining tried and true proven ingredients with the latest dispersion processes to deliver a zero V.O.C. Stain based on Linseed Oil and Tung Oil. These oils are crop based. Linseed oil is derived from Flax seeds and Tung Oil is derived from the seed in Tung nuts. Crop based ingredients actually CONSUME Co2! In fact the total process is “Carbon Neutral” meaning by the time we have used energy to harvest and process the oil we have not created a “net” increase in Co2. This is an extremely important USP to sell to todays discerning Dealer / Customer base.

Oil Based Stains are very effective as they have good durability partly due to good penetration into wood. These same properties have also made oil based stains the most polluted of paint products with solvent contents (VOC’s) up to 90%. In the last few years local governments have imposed various restrictions on levels of solvent content with California leading the way. This has led to frantic development of latex based stains. In earlier days latex stains failed miserably and although there may be better ones developed today the Dealer and Consumer has - by and large- written off latex stains as viable.

Since Renaissance times artists have used linseed oil paints.Stradivarius violins were finished in a Linseed / Tung Oil Varnish. Prior to 1900 there were no “Paint Factories”. Painters made their own paints; usually with linseed oil and white lead. When trade bloomed between China and America the use of “Tung Oil” in paint was discovered. Tung Oil is faster drying and dries to a harder finish. Over the years the combination of these oils has resulted in excellent quality stains.We based our research on new technology to deliver the classic performance of these oils without the use of solvents.
